Mayan Caplan ’25 shares how she made connections at Mount Holyoke: “It’s not just that everyone is really open and willing to connect; it’s that everyone is dazzlingly interesting, and I want to be in community with them.”

“I definitely feel like I’ve really built such a great community here. Besides my lab and my team, I have made so many friends from different classes and different events. I feel like my community is so large here.”

“The mentorship is one of the biggest reasons I’m glad I went to Mount Holyoke. When I talk to my peers who didn’t go to a small liberal arts college, it’s so different.”

“Being immersed in the language helped me to develop my skills. I felt much more confident not only in my Spanish speaking, but in my self-confidence as well.”

“I cannot imagine what my life could have been like without Mount Holyoke,” she said. “Be it academics, internships, extracurricular activities, community, friendships and interests, Mount Holyoke beautifully helped me tie a lot of these things together and become a better and more confident person.”

Praust, who won a Fulbright Study grant during her senior year, discusses the conversations being had in academic circles about a researcher’s ethical responsibility.

“I would not be where I am without advising and guidance, so finding a mentor/advisor invested in my success was crucial to my journey.”

It has been a priority to learn within the context of a supportive community that values mentorship.
